Deadline to Renew your Alaska Real Estate License

Saturday, January 31, 2026

Description

The Alaska Real Estate Commission (AKREC) is the state entity who renews your real estate license.

Do not wait until the last minute to renew your license! All real estate licenses that have not been renewed by January 31st will lapse on February 1st. You cannot practice real estate with a lapse license.

A message from the Alaska Real Estate Commission (AREC):

Real Estate License Renewals

Online license renewal will be available Monday, December 1st. You must be registered for a MyLicense account, accessed through your myAlaska account, to renew online.

If you have not yet set up MyLicense access, you must add your existing license to your profile using your license number and authorization code.

  • If your license number includes letters, you must include them (for example: RECS1243).
  • If your license number consists only of numbers, do not add “AK” in front of it (12345).

Once your license has been added, select the “Actions” button (blue box in the top-right corner of your record) to:

  • Update contact information
  • Access licensing resources
  • Renew your license

Before Renewing Online – Please Read Carefully

 Continuing Education Requirements

You must complete 20 hours of CE before submitting your renewal, consisting of:

  • 8 hours of Designated Continuing Education (DCE)
  • 12 hours of Elective Continuing Education (ECE)

DCE Topics for This Licensing Cycle:

  • Environmental Issues & Land Use – 2 hours
  • Fair Housing & Property Management – 2 hours
  • Required Licensee Disclosures – 2 hours
  • Counseling Consumers – 2 hours

📌 You are not required to upload your CE certificates unless you are selected for a CE audit.

License Status Changes Cannot Be Made During Online Renewal

  • Transfers must be submitted before or after you renew, not during the renewal process.
  • Inactivation requires a complete inactivation application and fees submitted on or before 1/31/2026.
  • You cannot inactivate a license that is already in lapsed status.

 E&O Insurance Verification Required

You must upload a current Certificate of Errors & Omissions (E&O) Liability Insurance as part of your renewal.

⚠️ Your license will not be renewed until your E&O coverage is verified.

Failure to provide current E&O documentation will delay renewal processing.

 Professional Fitness Questions

If you answer “Yes” to any professional fitness questions, you will be required to provide a brief explanation in the box below the question, as well as provide the following required information/documents.

  • A written explanation (in your own words)
  • All supporting documentation (court records, charging documents, judgments, etc.)

Submit your Renewal and supporting documents as early as possible.
